Stephanie Chefas, the founder of Chefas Projects, has been independently curating art exhibits for over a decade in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Now based in Portland, she continues to showcase cutting-edge and often challenging work that demands attention. Chefas Projects highlights a diverse blend of contemporary artists from around the world, with a focus on cultivating new talent and encouraging risk and evolution among established visionaries. Her passion and dedication to the arts make her an ideal curator for this issue.

What is Create! Magazine?
Originally founded in 2013 as Fresh Paint Magazine, the publication rebranded to Create! Magazine in 2016 to showcase the incredible talent of emerging artists working across a variety of media. Since then, we’ve highlighted thousands of artists globally, sharing their creations, inspirations, and stories. Our magazine has been featured by leading media outlets such as Colossal, Apartment Therapy, and The Jealous Curator. We have partnered with art fairs like Art Miami, Moniker, Affordable Art Fair, and Superfine, and collaborated with brands such as Minted. Print issues are available in our online shop and at select independent bookstores worldwide.
Eligibility
Our calls for entry are open to all artists from every country. All styles and media are welcome. There are no educational requirements to apply to the open calls. The theme for this issue is open, allowing you to submit your most inspired and representative work.
Submission Information:
- Artists may submit up to 10 individual pieces of work for consideration.
- Ensure high-quality images, recommended at 300 dpi in JPEG format.
- Upload artwork images, bio, and statement directly to the submission form.
- Bio and statement must be under 250 words each.
- Art does not have to be for sale.
- Open theme
Important Dates:
- Entry Deadline: September 30, 2024, 11:59 pm EST.
- All artists will be notified of the final decision by November 30, 2024. If your work is selected, you will receive further information at that time.
- All selected work will be included in the print issue due by the end of 2024/Early 2025. Artists will have an opportunity to review their spread and make edits if necessary before print. All selected artists will receive a complimentary digital edition.
Submission Fee:
- $35 for 3 images (non-refundable)
- The limit of submitted artworks is 10
- Bio word limit: 250 words
- Statement word limit: 250 words

Agreement:
By submitting, the artist agrees to allow Create! Magazine to use images of the artwork on its website and social media. The artist retains full copyright of the work. Images will only be used by Create! Magazine for the print issue, interviews, and social media posts. Inclusion is not guaranteed as this is a juried opportunity.

Alicia Puig is the curator & co-founder of PxP Contemporary, director at Create! Magazine, an arts writer, and co-author of The Complete Smartist Guide and The Creative Business Handbook. She has worked in the arts for over a decade in many facets of the industry.
Her writing has been featured in magazines and on blogs including Create! Magazine, Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Art She Says, and Artspiel, among others. Additionally, she has served as a guest curator for Hastings College, All She Makes, Create! Magazine, Rise Art, SHOWFIELDS, Apex Art, Arts to Hearts Project, I Like Your Work, Visionary Art Collective, and Altamira.

AQ is an exciting series of juried collectible publications that celebrate outstanding contemporary art created by women and non-binary artists. Each volume of AQ Books is a beautifully designed hardcover edition, featuring up to 50 artists handpicked by our founder and occasional guest curators.
Selected artists will be prominently featured in a 4-page spread within the publication. This spread includes a concise bio, contact information, and a showcase of three artworks of your choice.
To ensure maximum accessibility, AQ Books will be available for purchase through multiple channels, including Amazon and Create! Magazine. This widespread availability will allow art enthusiasts from around the world to discover and appreciate the remarkable talent showcased in AQ.
Our team is dedicated to curating an exceptional collection of artwork that represents the diversity and innovation of contemporary art by women and non-binary artists. By participating in AQ, you have the opportunity to elevate your career, gain widespread visibility, and connect with a global community of art lovers and professionals.

Yes, there is a one-time fee of $70, intended to support our team's investment in the design, distribution, and advertising of the publication. This ensures maximum engagement and visibility for your work. Artists will only pay the fee upon acceptance.
How is this different from Create! Magazine?
AQ is a collectible hardcover and softcover book, not a magazine, specifically dedicated to highlighting the creative contributions of women and non-binary artists.
How will artists be selected?
Guest curators will choose artists from the exclusive Art Queens community.
Is the submission fee refundable?
No, the submission fee is non-refundable as this is a juried opportunity.
